Foundation Course


This online course is for counsellors, therapists, mental health professionals and psychologists who wish to increase their knowledge and understanding when it comes to working with trans and gender diverse people. Delivered by a UK leading non-binary trans therapist, offering practical tools and unique insight gained from lived experience as a trans person and an established specialist working with queer, trans and gender diverse clients.


This course will introduce mental health professionals to:

  • An introduction to sex, gender and gender dysphoria
  • Gender affirming terminology
  • An introduction to historical, socio-medical context for trans and gender diverse clients in the UK
  • Power, privilege and intersectionality 
  • Key therapeutic themes in relation to trans and gender diverse clients
  • Cultural competence and best practice - WPATH (The World Professional Association for Transgender Health) Standards of care for the Health of Transsexual, Transgender, and Gender Nonconforming People
  • Introductory case discussions
  • Downloadable resources and best practice guide 


The main aims of this course

  • Gain an understanding of gender affirming terminology when working with trans and gender diverse clients
  • Provide a basic introduction to historical and socio-medical context for trans and gender diverse clients
  • Gain an awareness of the key therapeutic themes in relation to trans and gender diverse clients
  • Demonstrate good practice in relation to working with gender diverse clients in line with WPATH standards of care V.7 (8)
  • Increase cultural competence when working with trans and gender diversity
